Never tell AI to just "make it better"
Nate Herk told Claude "make it better" 100 times in a row on a simple coffee shop website. The Claude Opus run went on for 8.5 hours. By the end, the homepage had a pumpkin you could carve, the Spanish button did not translate anything, and Claude had broken its own features. It never once searched the web for ideas. It just kept adding. Here is what you need to say instead, with a ready prompt for every job.
The one prompt for anything
This is the 3-step fix from my reel. Fill in the brackets, paste your work, and send it to ChatGPT or Claude.
Make this better. Who it is for: [who will read or use it] What better means: [the one result you want, for example more booked calls or more sales] An example I love: [paste it, or a link to it] Here is my work: [paste it here] Suggest only the 3 changes that matter most, and tell me what to remove.
A prompt for each job
Same 3 steps, ready for 7 common jobs. Copy the one you need and fill in the blanks.
- 1
Your website or landing page
If you just paste the link and say "improve this", you will get a long list of changes. This one gets you the 3 that bring in calls or sales.

From my reel: a made-up coffee shop site at round 1 and at round 100 of "make it better". I made these screens to show what happened in Nate Herk's test. They are not from his video. PromptMake my landing page better. Who it is for: [who lands on it, for example small gym owners in the US] What better means: [for example more people booking a call] A page I love: [paste a link or a screenshot] What I love about it: [one line, for example the headline is short and clear] Here is my page: [paste the link or the text] Look at it like someone who is seeing it for the first time, on their phone. Suggest only the 3 changes that matter most, and tell me what to remove.
- 2
A sales email
Give it the person reading the email and the one thing you want them to do. Then it stops making the email longer.
PromptMake this sales email better. Who it is for: [who gets it, for example owners of dental clinics] What better means: [for example more replies asking for a call] An email I love: [paste one you liked getting] Here is my email: [paste it here] Keep it short enough to read on a phone. Suggest only the 3 changes that matter most, and tell me what to remove.
- 3
A social media post
Tell it where the post is going and who it is for. The first line matters most, so this prompt makes it start there.
PromptMake this post better. Where it is going: [Instagram, LinkedIn or X] Who it is for: [for example first-time founders] What better means: [for example more saves and comments] A post I love: [paste it here] Here is my post: [paste it here] Start with the first line, because that is the one people see. Suggest only the 3 changes that matter most, and tell me what to remove.
- 4
An ad
Paste the ad and say who sees it. Add one ad you love, maybe one that made you stop scrolling yourself.
PromptMake this ad better. Who it is for: [who will see it, for example women who want to get fit at home] What better means: [for example more people clicking to buy] An ad I love: [paste the text or a screenshot] Here is my ad: [paste the headline, the text, and what the image or video shows] Suggest only the 3 changes that matter most, and tell me what to remove.
- 5
A proposal
Put in what the client told you they want, in their own words. Then every change it suggests is about their problem.
PromptMake this proposal better. Who it is for: [who will read it, for example the owner of a 20-person law firm] What better means: [for example they say yes this week] What they told me they want: [their main problem, in their words] A proposal I love: [paste one that won, or describe it] Here is my proposal: [paste it here] Suggest only the 3 changes that matter most, and tell me what to remove.
- 6
A pitch deck
Upload the deck or paste the text of each slide. Here it will also tell you which slides you can cut.
PromptMake my pitch deck better. Who it is for: [who I am pitching, for example angel investors or a big client] What better means: [for example they ask for a second meeting] A deck I love: [paste a link or name one] Here is my deck: [upload it, or paste the text of each slide] Suggest only the 3 changes that matter most, and tell me which slides to remove.
- 7
A product description
Say who buys it and what you want them to do. Then it writes for that buyer.
PromptMake this product description better. Who it is for: [who buys it, for example new moms who want more sleep] What better means: [for example more people adding it to the cart] A product page I love: [paste a link or the text] Here is my description: [paste it here] Suggest only the 3 changes that matter most, and tell me what to remove.
The 3 steps, in plain English
- 1
Tell it who this is for
Name the real person who will read it, like "small gym owners in the US". If you say nothing, AI writes for everyone.
- 2
Tell it what better means
Pick one result you can count, like more booked calls or more sales. Without that, AI just keeps adding things.
- 3
Give it one example you love
Paste a page, an email or an ad that you like, so it has something to aim at.
- 4
End with this one line
"Suggest only the 3 changes that matter most, and tell me what to remove." Then make those 3 changes, or just ask it to make them for you.
Questions people ask
What happened when Claude was told to make it better 100 times?
Nate Herk tried this on a simple coffee shop website. The Claude Opus run took 8.5 hours. Claude added a pumpkin you could carve on the homepage and a Spanish button that did not translate, and it broke its own features. It never once searched the web for ideas. It just kept adding. Why does "make it better" give bad results?
AI does not know who your work is for or what better means to you. So it guesses, and most of the time it guesses by adding more. When you give it a reader, a goal and an example, it has something to aim at.
Why only 3 changes?
If you ask for everything, you get a long list that you will never finish. With 3 changes, you will actually make them. And asking what to remove stops it from just adding more.
Do these prompts work in ChatGPT too?
Yes. They work in ChatGPT, Claude or any other AI chat. They are plain English, so there is nothing to install, and they are completely for free.
